Brief History

Cancer is a dreaded disease for centuries due to relatively delayed diagnosis and low rate of cure. Recently advanced types of equipment for early diagnosis, prevention on tobacco-related products and modern treatment of the disease has improved survival rates of cancer remarkably. Minimal invasive surgeries with good cosmetic post-surgery life, targeted chemotherapy drugs with improved treatment for side effects and efficient newer generation radiotherapy are contributing to this change in mindset. At the same time these costly cancer treatments, most of the time, do not reach poor people.

India is a country of world’s largest number of poor people. With the aim to reach poor and give them affordable healthcare we established a hospital called ‘Indrayani Hospital and Cancer Institute’ through ‘Shree Narsimha Saraswati Medical Foundation’ a charitable trust in the year 2003. The hospital is located in the semi-urban area of Alandi near Pune. We are committed to prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer in the rural area around Alandi. The treatment is given to all patients at the affordable cost. We were awarded a financial grant of Rs. 185 lacs by ‘Department of Atomic Energy’ for the purchase of Telecobalt machine and towards establishing radiotherapy center in the year 2010.

We commissioned the radiotherapy center in the year 2012 and are treating the poor patients since then. Due to the services offered to the poor strata of the society we were impaneled by the State Government in the Grade ‘A’ for the ‘Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jeevandayee Arogya Yojna’(MJPJAY), a tertiary medical treatment scheme promoted by the Government. We are effectively treating about 500 patients per month in our hospital. This load of patients is likely to increase substantially due to the awareness drive launched by the State Government under MJPJAY.

In 2017, we brought new Radiotherapy Machine (a Linear Accelerator) to upgrade our center to a higher level. With the help of this machine, we are able to provide state-of-art Radiotherapy services at an affordable cost. Now we treat majority of patients on our New Linear Accelerator. Our dedicated, well trained and experienced technical staff plays a vital role in the process of this treatment. Today, we have a fully equipped cancer center with a 100-bed capacity.
